Borderland

Borderland studies the landscape, infrastructure, and power at the U.S.-Mexico border. Produced in the San Rafael Valley of southern Arizona, the series traces the ongoing construction of border wall segments in a remote, ecologically sensitive region. Using an observational approach, the work examines how a contested political boundary is inscribed onto the land.

Positioned between documentary practice and landscape photography, these images explore the tension between monumentality and vulnerability. Steel barriers and construction scars appear against the grassland, the sky, and a sensitive wildlife corridor, drawing attention to the relationship between government policy and place. Borderland asks viewers to consider what is being built, what is being destroyed, and what it means to alter a place in the name of security.
